“Silver Healer produces a nano-particle blend of ionic and colloidal silver that can be easily absorbed by the body. It is one of the most powerful natural antibiotics in existence.” – Honey Colony

img_4285Silver is considered one of the best natural antibiotics/antimicrobial products available. It’s been used for thousands of years and in various cultures for its antibiotic properties. The use of silver in the medical and health field is not new — hospitals and wound care facilities have used various wound care dressings and bandages with silver incorporated into them for years. Because of the increasing epidemic of super bugs and hospital-acquired resistant bacteria, the use of silver-containing products has expanded overall. As attention to the benefits of natural silver has grown, so have the variety of silver-containing bandages and wound care products, as well as the number of commercially sold and at home health and wellness products available. Honey Colony’s Colloidal Silver Healer is an incredible way to make nano silver on your own, in the comfort of your home, to enjoy the various uses of silver’s antibiotic properties.

“The medical uses of silver include its incorporation into wound dressings, creams, and as an antibiotic coating on medical devices. While wound dressings containing silver sulfadiazine or silver nanomaterials may be used on external infections,[1][2][3] there is little evidence to support such use.[4] There is tentative evidence that silver coatings on endotracheal breathing tubes may reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia.[5] The silver ion (Ag+) is bioactive and in sufficient concentration readily kills bacteria in vitro.
Colloidal silver is not recognized as safe or effective by the FDA.[6] Silver generally has low toxicity and minimal risk is expected for use in approved medical applications.[7] Silver and silver nanoparticles are used as an antimicrobial in a variety of industrial, healthcare and domestic applications.[8]
Colloidal silver (a colloid consisting of silver particles suspended in liquid) and formulations containing silver salts were used by physicians in the early 20th century, but their use was largely discontinued in the 1940s following the development of safer and effective modern antibiotics.[9][10] Since the 1990s, colloidal silver has again been marketed as an alternative medicine, often with extensive “cure-all” claims. Colloidal silver products remain available in many countries as dietary supplements and homeopathic remedies, although they are not effective in treating any known condition and carry the risk of both permanent cosmetic side effects such as argyria and more serious ones such as allergic reactions, as well as interactions with prescription medications.[11][12]”

When Chronic Illness Bloggers offered me the opportunity to try the Colloidal Silver Healer by Honey Colony, I jumped at the chance. Because of my experience working in the pharmaceutical and medical sales, and the countless times I’ve been in the operating room discussing the well-known concerns of patients who heal poorly, or the real risk of acquiring serious infections such as MRSA — solely from having surgery or exposure at all to a hospital environment in general, I was not only interested in trying this product, I felt that it was important.

In addition to its antimicrobial properties, other perceived benefits of silver are it’s anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, and it’s perceived benefits of helping to offset symptoms of sinitus, the cold/flu, pinkeye, pneumonia and more (source listed below).

Personally, I would not have surgery or be cared for in a hospital using anything else other than a dressing that has silver, and a topical surgical glue when needed. Both using  topical surgical glue and dressings that contain silver can tremendously decrease the risk of infection from wound dehiscence, and the risk of infection overall. Considering those of us who have fragile tissues because of a connective tissue disorder such as EDS or other condition that affects that integrity of the skin and it’s ability to heal properly, I prefer to give my body the best shot possible at preventing both. With that being said, I’ve never used silver containing products for other personal applications outside of the hospital or for wound healing.

How does silver work?

Silver’s molecular makeup allows it to stop most bacteria from creating chemical bonds. The bacteria, once in contact with the silver, cannot multiply, and are broken down due to active silver’s properties. Silver is so good at providing bacterial protection that many clinics and hospitals use silver-based surgical tools as well as furniture to help limit the spread of any disease.

Because silver works at the molecular level, it is able to stop many superbugs and bacterial strains. According to the Silver Institute, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a deadly staph germ that is resistant to many other hospital-grade antibiotics, can often be wiped out through silver-based dressings.

How do silver wound care dressing work?

“One current silver-based dressing that may help speed up wound healing while not damaging the fibroblasts that surround it is the Aquacel line from ConvaTec. Made from layers of hydrofiber, the silver-infused dressing provides the silver-based bacterial protection while also absorbing wound discharge.

Nano-based technology

Nanotechnology was once firmly in the realm of physical scientists, but recent studies have proven that the minute particles in question can also have a place in health care. A 2014 study that was published in a February issue of Advanced Materials found that nanofilms that contain nanoparticles can help reduce the rate of wound bacteria more than 100 times than conventional dressings that do not include silver. During the study, this micro-technology was assistive in healing wound infections.”

My experience using the Colloidal Silver Healer:

  • Very easy to use and set-up (see pictures below)
  • Fun
  • Applications of use are countless
  • Just like anything else, you have to watch how much you actually ingest. As wonderful as silver is, accumulating too much in the body is harmful just like any other metal
  • Great results with low-grade fever vs. Motrin, sinus issues, allergies, my son’s sore throat, skin rash my daughter had, chronic cough and reactive airway problems my sons occasionally deal with and more.
  • Still learning how and where to use the nano silver made by the Colloidal Silver Healer, but the benefits my family has realized thus far have been great.

Instructions for use:

“The Silver Healer is very simple to use. All you do is pour distilled water into the sixteen ounce mason jar, plug in the machine, and then you can forget about it for a few hours if you like. The machine passes a constant, low electric current through its silver rods, which causes silver ions (charged atoms) to go into the water. The process takes about two hours. You’ll know it’s done because you’ll find that the steady blinking blue display will have changed to green.
Prior to running, the machine will test the water and will refuse to operate if it senses any conductivity in it. Only distilled water contains no trace of an electric charge and can thus properly conduct the silver ions. If tapwater is placed in the jar – even accidentally – the Silver Healer simply will not work! It will rapidly flash red to notify the user that the water is not acceptable. This guarantees that your end purestproduct will be the  form of ionic/colloidal silver.
The machine is fully integrated and completely automatic. There are no timers to set or finicky adjustments to make. It plugs in with a USB cord, so you can plug it into your laptop or use a battery-operated USB pack, if you like. Of course, should you wish to adjust the concentration of your results, you can easily adjust it to anywhere between about 3 and 20 PPM. It is automatically set at about 10 PPM (these values are approximate and may vary slightly from machine to machine and from user to user).
In addition the package comes with a small black square. The little black square is for an optional process called “Gentle Stirring,” described in the attached manual on Page 8. In a short summary, you apply the square to the side of your mason jar and use a low wattage incandescent light bulb to heat the square, resulting in gentle stirring by convection.
However, please note that (contrary to the manual) we no longer recommend pre-heating the distilled water; we have found that the most consistent results, long term, are achieved simply by using distilled water at room temperature.”
